Pagosa Insurance Agency-Since 1908 Pagosa Insurance is celebrating 99 years of business in Pagosa Springs, Colorado. In its beginnings the agency served people who worked the farming and ranching and logging and hospitality businesses in this unique, inviting, rural community in the San Juan Mountains of Southwestern Colorado.
The history of the agency is as widely varied as the array of insurance products currently provided; as diverse as our clientele in background and experience. At first the agency was closely associated with the only bank in town at the time. Later, the agency was managed by attorneys, local real estate salespeople, developers, and even a real insurance agent or two. People came to the area for its high quality of life and promise of good friendships, good hunting, satisfying winter sports, and profitable business. This last was the promise not always kept, and many people moved on. The agency changed hands as era gave way to new era. The town and the business changed as new opportunities followed traditional ways and methods.
Service to people and their community kept Pagosa Insurance Agency viable as a service business in a changing economy with a changing populace. In 1983, Ken and Linda Morrison moved to Pagosa Springs to buy the agency and settle in "for the duration." Service to clients remained the first priority and they added new skills, education, professionalism, and new insurance products and services to the traditional insurance agency. Automation improved service and communication: first with a "state of the art" 10mb IBM XT, then a color monitor! then eventually a real CD-Rom drive! Wow, right? Today the agency automation is still state-of-the-art, the people as still educated and professional, and the office is convenient and centrally located at 102 Third Street, Pagosa Springs, CO 81147.
